Merry Christmas

Some photos from Christmas Morning

Hope everyone had a lovely holiday. We enjoyed lots of family time, dog-sitting, baked goods and visits from friends. Above, you see my parents’ puppies chomping on tissue paper… even they got what they wanted on christmas day : ) And we enjoyed time with Brian’s family on Christmas Eve, the time they traditionally spend together.

Our “Brothers”

Cat’s mom went to North Texas in August to adopt a puppy named Trooper. Trooper was in rehabilitation there; he’d been abused as a newborn. We were excited to meet Trooper when he arrived at his new home – but when Kim gave us the word she was heading back, we learned she wasn’t coming back with one pup. She adopted another to keep Trooper company: Sam.

Trooper's first day home.

We’ve gotten to see the boys quite a few times, and babysit them too. They’re (can I say “freaking” on this blog?) adorable. We’ve been around for the potty-training etc, etc…including their first trip downtown to the Farmer’s Market!

As you can see, Trooper’s looking tons better. He has hair all over now, and it’s got four different colors. The boys’ personalities are oddly distinct – Trooper has become quite the adventurer/explorer. And while Sammy will be a physical bully to Trooper at home, he’s as timid as ever when he’s in public. Sometimes Trooper is more lovable than Sam, who usually wants to play fetch (his favorite activity) rather than be cuddled. And it’s Trooper that has a better attention span; Sam sometimes forgets he’s chasing a ball a second after you throw it. The two have become dependent on each other, which is quite cute! When Trooper leaves the room, Sammy worries and vise versa.

Enough affectionate descriptions…we love ‘em. Here’s the latest shot we have of them, from Thanksgiving night, when we helped Trooper come down the stairs on his own for the first time (he’s afraid of heights):

Pretty Pills

A bunch of Tic-Tacs have entered our life recently. I’m not sure where they came from. They’re citrus-flavored, and we’ve been gobbling them up like candy – perhaps because they’re actually candy.

Every time I encounter Tic-Tacs, I think of my grandmother – who refers to Tic-Tacs as “pretty pills.” She gives them to my sister, reminding her to eat them so she’ll stay pretty. I always thought this was…well, absolutely adorable. Now Cat’s eating them to stay pretty!

Now I suppose you’re wondering: am I eating pretty pills too? The answer is yes, but I prefer my handsome juice to pretty pills: Shiner Oktoberfest. Too bad it’s seasonal…I’ll have to have enough this fall to keep me looking pretty for a while. :-)

The B

Extreme. Wedding. Weekend.

This past weekend, wedding activities really began for me. I don’t think I knew what I was getting into until then!

My aunt came up to attend a friend’s wedding on Saturday, and she was quickly roped in to the plans my mom and I had made. On Friday we kicked off with some shopping and then we re-worked my ceremony program design. I’m making them by hand, which sounded like a good idea… before we started.

Saturday began with a shower at the lovely Stys house, where our host wore a peacock themed outfit and presented me with my very own teal, peacock feathered hat and veil! I wore it all day (even after leaving the shower…) Before attending a bridal shower for myself, I was nervous and sure I would hate it. Normally, I wouldn’t choose to be the center of attention. But now that I’ve been, all I notice is how great an honor it is to have friends who are excited, supportive, and ready to give advice about my coming nuptials! Poor Brian. There really should be groom showers… as it is, he just gets to come over afterward to hear all about it.

And on this day he met us after the shower for a visit to East Metro Park, where our wedding will be. We needed to measure the rooms and talk details for the big day. Brian’s sketching skills and excellent handwriting came in handy here.

The next day there was another shower to go to, this one thrown by Brian’s aunt and cousin. All the Nunnery relatives were there, and I now feel as if I know my in-laws much more intimately! Especially since one such relative attempted to steal all of my gifts… ; ) We ended the day with more do-it-yourself wedding crafts, which are far more expensive and time consuming than one would imagine. But far more personal and fun than ordering from a service. Brian is even typing up explanations for our choices to display at the wedding, so that all our guests will know how and why we did what we did. No blind choosing for us! Our goal is for every aspect of the ceremony and reception to have meaning and be specially prepared.

But, we’ve only got four more weeks! Tomorrow is the 22nd, which starts the final countdown. And our to-do list is growing by the hour. Haha. Maybe we should invest in yoga or meditation. Any suggestions?

Merry Christmas!

Here’s our favorite photo from the holidays, for your enjoyment:

That is me as a sheep, in case you can’t tell. I’m wearing my favorite christmas present, a sheep blanket from brian’s grandmother. Amazing! But, we actually are capable of taking serious photos. Here’s another, which my dad edited:

Happy Holidays to you all! In the morning, Brian is flying off to Boston for an 11 day travel course around the northeast. Part of the requirement is to blog about his journey— follow him on briannunnery.wordpress.com.

Remember Remember The 15th of November

Because it’s our mom’s birthday! Both my mom and Brian’s mom were born on November 15th… two years apart, the same age difference as Brian and me. Weird karma.

To celebrate, we went to Enchanted Rock with my family on Sunday. An epic photo shoot ensued, after we’d regained energy from the climb up. I think I had the hardest time. Luckily Brian was there to push me at the end!

Brian knows more about wordpress, so he’ll be adding a gallery of shots soon. For now, here’s a preview of the fun! And stay tuned, because we’ll be seeing Brian’s mom for her celebration soon. Hopefully it won’t be as exhausting.
