About Cat

[written by Brian]
Cat was born in New Jersey in 1989. After living in Pennsylvania and Connecticut, she moved to Austin in 2000 with an eventual purpose to rid my diction of grammatically questionable Texan terms like idinat (isn’t that), wudur-you (what are you), and watchagonna (what are you going to). Her latest achievements include helping me to ditch “if I would have” for “if I had.”
So about Cat. First, she’s married to me – and I’m really, really happy about that. Second, Cat can’t go without caffeine. Finally, Cat likes people. A lot, actually. Babies, kids, teenagers, adults, and all the like. She’s genuinely interested in everyone she meets. I love this about her. She makes people feel liked and appreciated, and by doing so encourages me to do the same.
As a senior at The University of Texas at Austin (double majoring in Sociology and History), Cat usually bears a hefty load of homework – and even though she laments over it, she really does love learning. She also loves to read. Though she didn’t read until she was 6, she used to storm through chapter books in elementary school like they were…well, something else that gets stormed through. During the school year, we have regular “study parties,” in which we drink magnificent coffee (french pressed, of course) and eat more snacks than we’d like. We’ve finished quite a few papers this way.
Cat just finished teaching kids’ camps at the Austin Children’s Museum for the second summer. Now she’s looking for a part time nannying job for the school year. She loves kids and teaching, so the jobs are a great fit – though she’s not sure if she wants to go into teaching. We both view jobs as a means to a more important end, however – so as long as Cat enjoys the job she has, we’ll be happy.
Cat also babysits on the side, and spends time with our family from church frequently. Her relationships are important to her – and, like me, she typically gets “socially stir-crazy” if she goes a few hours without seeing anyone. We’ve become fond of having dinner with friends at least once a week. In fact, why don’t YOU come over to our beautiful subsidized apartment for dinner soon?
Brian is like Mr. Gadget- tools up every sleeve. I rely on him for up-to-date weather reports, directions to anywhere from anywhere, endless optimism (to counter my perpetual pessimism), explanations of football plays, and the latest information about the food industry. He is truly a jack of all trades.
Brian’s currently a Marketing Analyst for Brothers Lane, an Austin-based firm. He went full-time with Brothers Lane after graduating from Concordia University with a degree in Communications. Brian enjoys the work he does – which includes all types of marketing stuff (social media, design, networking, blogging, branding) and a lot of things I don’t understand…if you’re interested in commercial photography or IT consulting, though, please let him know!
In his free time, Brian listens to This American Life podcasts, teaches sunday school, writes the weekly church email, practices baking chocolate chip cookies, and stays in shape with Soft-Fit and bike rides that circumference Town Lake. Speaking of exercise, if he goes more than a day without a run or bike ride, he gets restless leg syndrome. And if he goes more than a few hours without human interaction, he goes a little crazy. Laziness is not even on the radar with this one. His idea of a break is to read about random cities on Wikipedia. When he sits down to do something, no procrastination is involved— he just gets it done, and moves on to the next project. How else could he handle all of this? The guy feels guilty if he wakes up after 8am. Then again, he loses all consciousness around 10:30pm.
It’s hard to complain about a man so driven with purpose (no reference to Rick Warren intended here) and love for people. My biggest concern? He eats fruits and veggies for every meal. But he knows not to try to force that on me.

Look out Cat…there is something to be questioned about someone who eats fruits and veggies at every meal. You have found a good man if he understands not to force that on you. Congratulations on the engagement. The website is great!
